Addy's brother and brother to be

Addy is very proud of her little brother Andrew Pierce Miller, aka "Drew". Drew just turned 2 years old, and we had some photos taken. Addy wanted to share her brother on her blog - she just loves him so much (and he idolizes her). So here is little Drew (and his best friend "Doggie").

Addy is also expecting another baby brother this spring. Here is her favorite shot with my belly and the baby inside.

Magic 8 Ball last day shooting

Hi,

Addy had to go back for one more day of shooting Magic 8 Ball, where she finished up three scenes they needed her for. I have a photo of one of the scenes, in which she was the only person in the scene. What you see below is a vision in another person's dream. It was late at night, almost 10pm when they got this shot, and poor Addy was in a thin dress in the middle of the woods. But she didn't mind at all, we had to make Addy put on a coat between takes - it was 41 degrees outside! After she says her lines, she turns and runs down a path, maybe that is how she stayed warm, by running over and over for each take they did. I just wanted to share this photo because I think it is pretty neat.

Milites Christi - Soldiers of Christ

Well we are home from another weekend of shooting (our third in a row!). This time it is for the movie "Milites Christi - Soldiers of Christ". It shot in Winston-Salem. The Producer is Clint Buckner, and the Director is Jared Outten. It is a period film, set after a war on a battlefield in Northern Europe in the 13th Century. Addy plays a Pagan Slave named Sibyl. The film is being shot by the NC School of Arts and being submitted to several film festivals. The Dean of the School is Jordan Kerner - big time producer - and he has mentored Clint Buckner and came out to support him while filming was taking place.

The movie is being shot on a horse farm, here is Addy and another little boy getting some time to pet the extremely social horses.

Magic 8 Ball

Over two weekends, Addy has been shooting a UNCW Films production called Magic 8 Ball. There are three principal characters; Ryan, Young Ryan and Katie. Addy is Katie. Her father is abusive and there are some pretty dramatic scenes, all of which Addy nailed. Other characters are Katie's Father, Karen, Old Man, and Old Lady. It is a short film.

The Writer/Director is Rob Cummins, and the Producer is Meredith Lynch. Below is a picture of Addy and the crew. The story is based around Ryan remembering his past after seeing a Magic 8 Ball. He remembers in pieces, but eventually puts it together about his friend Katie and what her abusive father does to her.

Here is Addy as Katie at the house, this was the beginning sequence to the dramatic scene where her father gets angry and begins to beat her.

Here is Addy with Donald Moore who played "Katie's Father". He was the nice man that had to act mean and he did an awesome job. He was also able to do it without actually hurting Addy.

Well that is it. This film won't be ready until April 2009. I know I posted a lot of photos, but just wanted to share. They aren't done with this film, Addy is due to return for another day of shooting.

Addy's new role.

I just wanted to mention that I will have photos up soon of Addy's newest role. We will be filming her part over two weekends, starting this Saturday and Sunday. (Hopefully it won't rain, this weekend is outdoor scenes!)

Addy plays Katie, the daughter of an abusive and alcoholic father. She is one of the principal roles, and has some pretty dramatic scenes!! The movie is called Magic 8 Ball.

I will try to get photos up next week. Wish us luck - now back to rehearsing those lines!!

Just saw the movie!!

I just saw the film and was blown away. It was so good!! I didn't expect it to be as funny as it was either - Jennifer Hudson had so many funny lines.

There were three girls used for the role of Young Lily, Addy being one of them. It was neat to see how they put everything together.

We waited to see the end credits, and all three girls are listed under the heading "Young Lilys". We cheered real loud (our group) when we saw Addy's name. It was pretty exciting!!

Also feel I must mention how incredible the scene is when Lily tells August about her past. Dakota's performance is stellar! It makes you cry, you feel for her!! Everyone was great - Zach, Rosaleen, May, June, TRay, what a great cast!!

All I can say is WOW!!

Addy's agent recently did a web search with just these words in the title: "Addy Miller Secret Life of Bees". The amount of pages that opened up and had Addy listed in the credits on their sites was absolutely amazing to us.

Here is our little girl on all these sites. One of them I created a page for her, because it had a place you could do that. I just think it is neat to see her name in the cast list with a picture. Anyway, I added some TSLOB trivia from Addy's time on set.

We also got our first request for an autographed picture from a complete stranger!! It was sent to Addy's agent, who forwarded it to me. I have contacted the person to obtain his/her address. I am also curious about who he is and what he wants with the autograph. This is new to us; Addy is still so young. I just want to protect her.

New work for Addy

It has been a while since I have posted for Addy's site. I have also been neglecting our family site too. But I am here now - just with an update.
.
Addy has been busy getting some pretty big auditions, and has been offered two roles that I would like to share. One role she was offered last month - it is for a film called "Soldiers of Christ" in which she will play a slave child. I am unsure her character name at this moment - there is a group of seven slave children. It won't be until they are in character that they will place them where they want. Addy might get to be the lucky one that succumbs to malnutrition and gets dragged around by the others. Haha - you never know. It is a film set in a war zone, so the make up and such should be pretty good. She is set to film her scene on November 8th.

Addy has also been offered a pretty neat role in a film called "Magic 8 Ball". She will be one of the five main characters - Katie. She did the audition last week, and they liked her so much, they had her do her callback while we were there. They contacted us today that she got the part. It will be the biggest speaking role she has gotten to date. Her scenes will be shot over two weekends (so she doesn't miss school) the last two weekends of October.

I will try to keep this site posted as often as possible. Between school, two soccer teams, and auditions, Addy has been pretty busy - as well as the rest of our house.

Addy's role in Secret Life of Bees

Well "The Secret Life of Bees" premiered in Toronto this past weekend at the Toronto International Film Festival. I emailed someone that went to see it this weekend and asked about Addy's role in the film. I was just dying to know how she did.

Here is what he wrote back:

The film opens with the flashback of young Lily watching her parents from the floor of a closet. The scene unfolds from her point of view. You see the arm of the young girl first, holding a small mirror (I think) then gradually the young girl's face comes into view in the reflection. I was aware of the situation with the two actresses playing the one role, so I did watch carefully; it was sort of obvious to me that the arm belonged to a younger child. Most viewers probably wouldn't notice this, the sequence was put together pretty seamlessly.

You see your daughter's face for what I would guess is between 5-10 seconds---not terribly long, but long enough to establish who is watching the struggle between the two adults. I would describe her expression as somewhere between frightened and bewildered by what is happening in front of her.

After you see the child's face, the physical struggle takes place, a gun hits the floor, and the child picks it up. After this flashback/memory, Dakota picks up the role.

You do see a photo later of young Lily and her mother. I'm assuming this is your daughter as well. Again, you see the photo briefly, about 5-7 seconds.

Dakota Fanning, Divas Get Buzzing

The only bad thing about a wonderful new drama called "The Secret of Life of Bees" is that when it opens, the word "buzz" is going to be overused to ridiculous length. Let's be the first and get it out of the way now. The buzz is very, very good.

What more could I want from a film? It stars Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Sophie Okonedo and Jennifer Hudson in Sue Monk Kidd's novel about a young white girl — Dakota — in 1964 South Carolina who runs away from an abusive father (well played by Paul Bettany) and goes to live with these ladies.

.

It's a beautifully balanced, extremely nuanced drama that never gets overly sentimental. Director Gina Prince-Blythewood makes sure this is no chick flick either — there are no traveling pants here. "Bees" is a gritty story and Prince-Blythewood doesn't mind that. The director's genius here is that she doesn't mess with the author's tone. The feel is a lot like the way Mira Nair made "The Namesake." There's respect for the material.

The real revelation is Dakota, who's 14 and still has to endure the misery of "Hound Dog" being released shortly. She carries the film with a quiet dignity. Not since Jodie Foster has a child actor made this kind of impact. I wouldn't be surprised if she's nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. She's that good. She seems to know innately about stillness as an acting technique, more than most adult actors. Whatever planet she's from, I wish they'd send a few more like her.

This takes nothing away from the trio of R&B divas, plus Okonedo. Keys, Latifah, and Hudson do not sing in this movie, although Keys and Latifah do harmonize for a few seconds in character. The four women — they play sisters — are remarkably well cast and perform beautifully as an ensemble. Hudson probably has the "award" role, but Latifah is just as forceful. Alicia proves with this film there is nothing she cannot do. Okonedo — an Oscar nominee for "Hotel Rwanda" — gets to do some nice character work. They are each terrific.

"Bees" is maybe the first real Oscar possibility of 2008. Sweet as honey? Yes. But that real honey, nothing store bought or calculated. As the "buzz" comes and goes now on a parade of films, keep this one in the back of your head. It's a (bee) keeper.

Addy has new pictures!!

Addy just had her picture taken - on the fly - this past Sunday. We were with our agent, Gwen, in a restaurant in Wilmington, she had her camera, and decided to get a few shots of Addy. Gwen took these pictures of Addy in a tree in the parking lot. No kidding!! Here are a couple of my favorite pictures....

Secret Life of Bees bringing publicity!!

Hey to all of Addy's fans out there!

Well we have been asked to share our wonderful experience from The Secret Life of Bees in a few articles, and to represent our wonderful agency, Maultsby Talent.

So that means that Addy will be getting some publicity and being featured - mainly in the Wilmington area. I am hoping that with this exposure will bring more work - plus we are proud of our agency and proud to represent them and all they have done for Addy.

I can't believe the movie comes out in 2 months - I wonder if it will get crazier the closer we get to the US premier (it premiers in Canada at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 5th). When I get copies of the articles, I will put links here for all to see and read.

Here is the official poster that will be seen in movie theaters across the nation!! It was just released today, and the trailer for the movie will be released on August 18th! Let's hope Addy is in the trailer, how cool would that be? I will post a link to the trailer as soon as it hits the internet on Monday, August 18th (also Addy's first day of the 3rd grade)!

Addy's IMDb message board had a message from someone that her name was suggested for playing Alice in Alice in Wonderland (2010).

Now everyone shares their opinions on the boards about a wide variety of topics. But to think someone thought of my little girl and typed it onto an IMDb board is beyond my mind right now. How cool!!

We think just being thought of is a honor - and it made us realize Addy has some fans out there that we don't even know about. What will happen when they actually see her on film? Who knows?

Addy as Selfish Sally

Well Addy performed today and did great!! She remembered all her lines, delivered them very well, and had a lot of fun. Here are some shots taken of the whole thing. Once the show started, it was pretty dark, so it was hard to get a good photo.

Selfish Sally

Addy will be performing her first theater role on the 13th of this month. Addy will be Selfish Sally. I must say I am surprised at how serious she is taking all this, and she has already learned her many lines. We are so proud of her!!

Hi to Addy's fans.
Nothing really going on right now, Addy is out of school for the summer, and we have been busy doing soccer camps and traveling a little bit.
Looks like Addy might be performing in some local theater productions this summer, which will help with confidence and be good practice for her.
So we look forward to that - it is like she has a summer gig or something.

IMDb, both girls finally!!

Finally both girls are listed on IMDb for their roles as Young Lily Owens in The Secret Life of Bees. Addy is listed as Young Lily Owens #1, and Emily is listed as Young Lily Owens #2. It looks like it will stay like that for a while.

Now when the movie comes out in the theater, IMDb gets an offical credits listing as seen at the end of the movie. Once they receive that, they put those credits on the IMDb page and lock in the credits so they cannot be changed.
.
Only 4 months to go!!

Finally after being off the site for a week, Addy is back up on IMDb for The Secret Life of Bees role she was in.

I looks like IMDb puts corrections up on Fridays, so hopefully Addy will still be listed next Friday (if Mr Lind (Emily's father) doesn't try to have her removed again).

Just so you guys know, if he has Addy removed again, I will just do the same back. I did, however, try to get IMDb to list both girls, so we will see what happens. Addy's agent is also working with us on this one.

Ok, enough is enough huh? I am done.

Back to the set for another scene!

Addy got called back to the set of Blood Done Sign My Name for another scene. This time she is in a brief 2nd grade classroom. You only get to see her from the back - but you can tell it is Addy with her long blonde hair.

Here is Addy ready for work. We are in the auditorium of a charter school in Gastonia NC. This was the only room air conditioned, so we were thankful for that. Here is Addy with some other kids for the scenes in a group shot.

Here is Addy with Tim Tyson. This movie is his true story. He wrote the book based on his childhood, and it is his story coming out on the big screen. He is such a nice man, and even signed my book for us.
We had another long day (11:30am-9:30pm), but Addy is hooked and loves this movie stuff. She can't wait to do another!!

Addy at Blood Done Sign My Name

Well we got home from the movie this afternoon at 3pm. We had to travel to Shelby NC for the filming of the "picnic scene". For this film, Addy is what they consider "background", to make the scenes look more real. Her official title for her resume is "picnicker".
.
Since this film is based in the year 1969, but it is a small country town, they had to dress 1964 ish. Luckily for us, Addy had this dress, and the wardrobe people loved it - so she got to wear her own dress in the movie scene! Addy also moved directly to hair and makeup, and didn't have to worry about messing up anyone's clothes.
.
Here is Addy right after she got her hair done. We are still at "base camp" at this point, and what we didn't know was it would be hours until they called up for the scene.


Here is Addy on location,( on a break). This is the "picnic scene" which in the book involves a KKK gathering. So we had to explain to the kids why these men were dressed this way. I have some incredible pictures from this scene, but won't post them until the movie is released. I just don't want to spoil the pure awesomeness of this scene as it is played out in the movie. I can only say this - it was a powerful thing to see in person! We had to wait until it got dark to finish the scene. It is unimaginable to think that things like this actually took place back then. If you are curious - read the book, chapter three. It is a place that when Timothy Tyson was six, his dad took him and his brother, Vern, to see one night so he could explain to them the evils of the world. (Timothy Tyson is the author of the book - a true story).

Another neat thing about being on location was Rick Schroder. He is Timothy Tyson's dad in the film (at least while he is young). We saw their scene being filmed as they peered over a rock to watch the Klan. All in all a great day, but a long one. Addy worked from 12:30 pm to 1:00 am. So she was a little tired, but was always on her best behavior, a real professional! I am so proud!

Well Addy might have to return for another scene - a 2nd grade classroom scene. If we go, I will post upon our return. Thanks for looking!! Jaime

Movie Update

Ok, the new movie Addy will be in is "Blood Done Sign My Name". It is based on a true story that happened in Oxford, NC. A book has been written about it too, with the same title (written first). Addy was supposed to go this past Monday to be in an extra scene as a church member. But the casting director saw her picture, called her agent and asked if they could use Addy in a different role. We are unsure what she will be doing, if she will be credited or just an extra. We should know in the next couple of weeks. The film just started shooting this past Monday, so it has only just begun. Here are some recent shots of Addy taken on Sunday, April 20th, 2008. She really does take direction well, and had a great time. You wouldn't know it was 80 degrees that day and the sun made it hotter. She never complained once! She just keeps getting better and better!! Here you go....enjoy ....
